Well, I didn’t get these made in time for this Christmas, but at least they will be ready for next year! How cute are these stockings! I got as far as cutting out the patterns, sewing the main stocking pieces together, and then I got to the part in the directions for creating/sewing the cuff. Man, am I a beginner sewer or what! I was trying to figure out what terms like “bias,” and “sewing in the ditch” meant, and I was completely lost. So, I took all my materials home with me for Christmas and luckily my seamstress mother was able to help me, finish the stockings for me, while I watched and learned. And for Christmas, she gave me some really nice Gingher sewing scissors! One of these days I will complete a sewing project on my own, but for now I’m just happy with my made-with-help Christmas stockings!
Check them out! (please ignore the missing 3rd button on the right stocking. Apparently, I can’t count, so I’m 1 button short!)
It’s Christmas morning, and much to my surprise I’ve been awake since about 6am. I don’t think that’s happened since I was about 12 years old. But, I slept most of yesterday expecting to have to work Christmas Eve, and then received a Christmas blessing and was canceled. So, I got to go to our Christmas Eve candlelight service with my family, as well as the Boggs family, which was so wonderful. There was something so peaceful about standing in a candlelit church, singing Christmas praises, my sweetheart by my side, and a precious little 2 year old on my hip (Greg’s neice). I just couldn’t keep from smiling. All the people I love gathered in one place. I loved every moment of it. Here’s a peek…
Following the service, my family split a little bit. I went with Greg’s family to dinner, Katie went to visit with her fiance’ and his family for a bit, and Emily went with her boy. But by the end of the night we all gathered back at our house to finish some wrapping, hang out, and then all 3 sisters climbed into one bed for the last Christmas Eve slumber party (seeing as Katie will be a married gal next Christmas!).
So I’ll leave you with a Christmas morning message, and I hope everyone has a wonderful day with family and friends! Please pray for those who cannot be with their families today. I love you all!
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
We had so much fun Monday night celebrating Christmas with all my girl friends. I’m lucky to have such beautiful, hilarious, sincere friends who truly have hearts of gold. I love them dearly! We cooked a huge dinner, sat together around the table, drank wine, played dirty (nice) Santa, and “danced” the night away to some awesome Michael Jackson on the Wii. We shared stories, old memories, laughed and cried, and laughed till we peed our pants! Here’s a little peek at our fun… enjoy!
I’ve been wanting to post pics of my Christmas decorations for weeks now, but my digital camera is a whopping 5 megapixils… yeah, that wasn’t doing to job anymore. My phone camera is 8 megapixils, but those pictures seem to come out blurry and dark, so I didn’t like that so much. Well, yesterday I asked Greg to borrow his DSLR for our Christmas party last night, and so he came by to visit yesterday afternoon and brought me his camera. We got talking about when we were going to do our Christmas present exchange, which we had previously decided would be Wednesday evening. While he was over here, he asked if we could just do it then. He just kept insisting that he really wanted to give me my gift, and I really wanted to give him his too (cause I knew he would love it!) So, we just decided to go ahead and do it. And guess what! He got me a new digital camera! 🙂 It’s a Canon powershot, 12.1 MEGAPIXILS! It’s perfect, and exactly what I’ve been needing. And I got him a Flip HD video camera, which he was super excited about. I don’t know how we both decided on cameras for each other, cause there literally were no conversations about, “well what do you want for Christmas?” We did good 🙂
So, with my neeeeew camera, I bring you….Christmas at Raleigh…
I decided to join the ever growing world of blogging. I seem to have all kinds of ideas about things I want to blog about, and pictures I want to post, and yet I created this site over a week ago and just haven’t been able to put into words the perfect “first” post. So, I’m going to keep it simple with this first one, and we’ll just grow from there 🙂
I have had a wonderful week. I had 4 nights in a row off from work, 2 special birthdays to celebrate, and I just about finished the rest of my Christmas shopping. Successful week indeed. There’s a bit of a running joke/weird coincidence in our family in that many of us celebrate the same birthday. Even those who have been added to the family (i.e. my sister’s fiancee) have similar birthdays. So it was pretty funny when I started dating my current boyfriend and we soon realized that he too shared a birthday. He and my youngest sister share December 16th together. One turned the big 18 and one turned 26. We went to dinner with my family on Thursday night, which is always a fun time. Then I had a bundle of surprises for my sweetheart that unfolded Friday and Saturday. Everything was a surprise to him, and it made it really fun.
We started with dinner at Rogue Tavern downtown with several of our friends, and from there we went to the Alabama Theatre to see Christmas Vacation (which is by far, his ALL-TIME favorite, watches-it-at-least-10 times-every-Christmas, movie). The best part is we had him convinced we were going to the McWayne Center as we were leaving dinner. He actually had come up with this guess and we just went along with it. He even told the parking meter guy we needed parking for the McWayne Center, and I just sat quietly in the passenger seat. It wasn’t until I lead him to the Alabama Theatre and stood at the ticket counter getting our tickets that he read the sign about Christmas Vacation and realized what was actually going on. He was thrilled!
Then Saturday I told him we needed to head to our second surprise destination at 1230. So he came and picked me up and I gave him directions along the way that ended us at Massage Envy in Hoover. We both got 90 minute full body massages, and let me tell you…..sigh, it was amazing! Why do I not get massages more often?? Oh right, cause they cost an arm and a leg. But thanks to my friend Groupon, I got a good deal on this one. Hopefully it’ll come back around again soon!
So that’s been my week, and now I’m back at work as I write this. I’m excited about Christmas next week, but sad that it’s here already and soon to be over. Am I allowed to keep my Christmas decorations up until….oh, February? haha. Until next time….
